About Us

The Main Street Children’s Choir (formerly Main Street Singers) is a children’s choir based in New Britain, CT. From September through April each year, we hold weekly rehearsals in preparation for our winter and spring performances and other special showcases. As an after school enrichment opportunity, our mission as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization is to provide the opportunity for children in greater New Britain to sing in choirs that build community, strive for artistic excellence, and foster a lifelong love of music. Membership in the chorus emphasizes the development of healthy vocal technique, music literacy, and musicianship skills that are cultivated through practice and performance of excellent treble children’s choral repertoire. The chorus performs at various locations throughout Connecticut and the New Britain community.

MSCC serves children grades preschool through eighth grade. We have three rooms where learning takes place. Main Street Music Time, for grades PK to 1 with parent present, uses a First Steps in Music Curriculum which features songs, games and movement. Our Junior Room is for grade 2 where we continue to work on general music skills and begin to incorporate singing as a choir with a conductor. These children perform as a separate group and with the Senior Choir two times a year. Our Senior Choir is for grades 3-8, where students concentrate on preparing a formal choir performance. MSCC uses an American Kodály method and the Feierabend Conversational Solfege Pedagogy.
